Get Wild at John Ball Zoo

This very special exhibit depicts Lake Manyara, a region in Tanzania. The first thing you'll notice as you walk up to this new exhibit will be two large bomas (replicas of round, thatched roofed African dwellings). These bomas will serve as your viewing structures, with floor to ceiling windows. From here you can get eye-level to the lions! Lake Manyara is also one of the few regions in the world where lions have been known to climb trees, so you'll see the exhibit features a 30-foot artificial tree which we hope will be a favorite napping spot for the lions.

Appreciation of Ford History

Take a walk into history and feature exhibits to appreciate the lives of President & Mrs. Ford. As the lead White House photographer, David Kennerly, enjoyed unprecedented access to our nation's 38th President. This exhibit highlights Kennerly's work at its best. Over forty photographs portray the poignant and personal side of President Gerald Ford. Joining these images, captioned with Kennerly's own recollections, are scores of seldom seen artifacts pulled from the Museum's collection.

Murder Mystery at the Museum

Visit the Public Museum during your stay. Located just across the street from the Days Hotel, at 272 Pearl Street NW in downtown Grand Rapids, one of the city's most exciting attractions and is also among the oldest historical museums in the upper Midwest.

Explore three fascinating floors of exhibits - including a 76-foot whale skeleton, Egyptian mummies, The Furniture City and much more. From viewing a show in the Planetarium or taking a spin on the vintage Carousel there's something for everyone at the Public Museum of Grand Rapids.

WHODUNIT? The Science of Solving Crime
Opens August 30th! Free with General Admission

Junior detectives can test their crime solving prowess in this interactive, investigative exhibit. A crowd favorite in its inaugural showing in 2001, it is back by popular demand for a limited run this fall.

Visitors take on the role of police detectives who discover a body in an alley while investigating a robbery. Sleuths will listen to eyewitness testimony, search for physical evidence and analyze the evidence in the crime lab. They'll learn about DNA profiling, fingerprinting, firearm identification, forensic anthropology, evidence collection and the examination of trace evidence. Local experts, including a medical examiner, forensic artist, firearms examiner and fingerprint examiner, will offer tips in the quest to discover "Whodunit?"

For even more excitement join us for a Super Sleuth Saturday and learn more about what it takes to investigate crime and how you can be a helpful witness.
