Green Lodging Michigan Certified ~

Green Lodging is a term used to characterize hotels, motels, resorts and bed & breakfasts who are leaders in energy conservation, air quality and reduced water consumption and waste. Green Lodging Michigan is a joint program through Michigan's Energy Office and the Department of Environmental Quality.

It is designed to promote Green Lodging throughout the state by encouraging hospitality facilities to adopt cost-saving "green" practices. It is a voluntary program that establishes environmental guidelines for the hospitality industry to conserve natural resources and prevent pollution.

State of Michigan - Green Lodging Michigan Steward Level Certification

Sponsor of Mayor Heartwell's Grand River Clean-up program

Quarterly "green initiatives" are required by all departments

All renovation debris including wallcover (14,976 yds), carpeting (9,371 yds) and furniture have been recycled or donated to charities

Guest Corridor and Restaurant wallcover are made of recycled material

Wood wallcover in Restaurant is from sustainable sources and is manufactured with an extremely high yield per log

Linen Conservation program

All new guest room lamping is Eco-friendly with Energywise sockets and fluorescent bulbs (778 incandescent bulbs converted to fluorescent)

In room refrigerator energy conservation

Comprehensive In room and meeting space daily recycling

Opened amenity donations to local homeless shelter (330 lbs to date)

Complete Office and Kitchen recycling

Newspaper and magazine recycling partnership with a local Boy Scout troop (11,020 lbs annually)

Office paper products are minimum 30% post consumer content (2,100 hinged containers and 3,000 cups annually)

All To-go containers are corn or potato based and/or have post consumer content

Deep fryer oil is collected and used to make bio-diesel (936 gallons annually)

General conservation of unnecessary lighting, water and energy use

Smoke free facility

Parking lot resealed by eco-friendly made in Michigan products

Pool maintained with Bromine

Conversion from styrofoam cups to china & glass in all guest rooms (97,748 cups annually)
